The historic landing at 7:55 am included industrialists and notable passengers. The event featured ceremonial celebrations, highlighting India’s infrastructure growth and the airport’s future role as a major cargo and connectivity hub in the National Capital Region.
The Noida International Airport in Jewar, located in Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, commenced operations on Monday with the successful landing of its first commercial flight, marking a significant milestone in India’s aviation infrastructure expansion. The inaugural IndiGo flight arrived at the greenfield airport at 7:55 am, nearly 10 minutes ahead of its scheduled arrival time.
The aircraft had departed from Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport in Lucknow at 7:14 am, carrying passengers including industrialists, employees, and individuals sponsored by the Noida-based CRC Group. Among the passengers was actress and former politician Gul Panag, who is also a licensed private pilot.
Speaking in an interaction on Sunday evening, Gul Panag highlighted the growing perception of Noida as an emerging aspirational hub within the National Capital Region. She noted that increasing numbers of residents from Delhi, South Delhi, and Gurgaon were beginning to consider Noida a destination of importance, reflecting a shift in the region’s socio-economic image. She also linked this transformation to broader discussions on urban development and environmental challenges in the region.
The flight was operated by Captain Ranjit Kapoor, who acknowledged the efforts of the central government, the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Uttar Pradesh government, engineers, planners, and workers involved in the development of the airport. He described the launch as the culmination of extensive planning and collective effort spanning millions of work hours.
Upon landing at Noida International Airport, passengers applauded as the aircraft touched down ahead of schedule. The arrival was marked by a water cannon salute from ground personnel as the aircraft taxied toward its designated airbridge, underscoring the ceremonial significance of the inaugural operation.
At Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport in Lucknow, authorities and IndiGo officials organised a ceremonial lamp lighting and cake-cutting event to mark the departure of the first-ever flight to Noida International Airport. The celebration included participation from the first passenger to enter Terminal 3 in Lucknow for the historic journey.
Shanti Jain, recognised by IndiGo as the first passenger to enter the terminal for the flight, expressed excitement at being part of the milestone journey. He stated that he had travelled from Guwahati to Lucknow the previous night specifically to board the inaugural service, describing the experience as a matter of national pride and a reflection of India’s infrastructure growth.
Outside the newly inaugurated airport, a ceremonial salute was presented by Uttar Pradesh Police personnel as arriving passengers observed the proceedings. Officials from CRC Group, including Director Salil Kumar, stated that the airport would enhance investor confidence and strengthen Noida’s position as a major destination for business and real estate investment, while contributing significantly to the economic growth of Uttar Pradesh and the country.
The launch of operations at Noida International Airport is expected to accelerate regional connectivity, strengthen industrial development in the National Capital Region, and establish the facility as one of India’s most ambitious aviation and cargo infrastructure projects.
